This year GATE 2012 is something special compared to other previous GATE exam. The only change it has brought this time is most of the big PSUs skip their recruitment exam written test and accepts the GATE score for the interviews. Some of the big PSUs which accepts GATE score for their recruitment for year 2012 are BHEL, NTPC, IOCL and BARC (Govt of India).
However this move taken was not appreciated as GATE exam tests the candidates skill in very limited manner. Earlier exams conducted by PSUs are quite different from each other and exam pattern will be as par for their requirement. For example, BHEL written exam contains a part of general engineering where there is a mix of questions from diversified engineering fields. The objective behind may be an electrical engineer should know minimum basic concepts of mechanical and other engineering disciplines.
It is very much expected that the competition for the exam will be quite high because of the joint recruitment concept. Prepare well and hope everyone clears the exam.
